The PPSh-41 (Pistolet-Pulemyot Shpage in Russian) was a submachine gun designed by Georgi Shpagin as a cheap and simplified alternative to the PPD-40 sub-machine gun. The PPSh-41 was a magazine-powered automatic submachine gun, powered by massive recoil and firing open lightning. It was one of the main small arms of the Soviet armed forces during World War II. The total amount of PPSh-41 submachine guns manufactured during World War II is estimated at over 6 million. It could be fed from a curved magazine or a drum, with the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev cartridge. The PPSh-41 was also used extensively during the Korean War.
