GREEK SHIELD DIPYLON DEEPEEKA (I6119.09)

Greek shield in use in the 8th century BC with a characteristic oval shape with lateral notches, known as Dipylon , from the name of an Athenian necropolis in which numerous depictions of the same were found.

The Dipylon probably derives from an older figure-8-shaped shield in use during the Mycenaean age starting from the 15th century BC, and of which it would be the direct evolution. Valuable reproduction in wood covered in black leather, equipped with umbo and metal studs.
